Description:

OTAVALO MARKET EXCURSION

Description:

The cultural excursion of Otavalo is a wonderful way to discover and combine the famous indigenous artisanal market in Ecuador and some of the incredible views of Otavalo.

The excursion begins with a panoramic trip to the north of Quito through the Sierra mountains, and our first stop will be at “Mitad del Mundo”, and then at Cayambe, where we can taste the famous biscuits of the city. Then we arrive at the famous Otavalo Market where you will have time to eat and buy crafts. The main market day in Otavalo is Saturday; However, this tour can operate throughout the week.

Our professional guide will provide an explanation about the indigenous peoples of this area, such as Quitu - Cara and other pre-Inca groups, and some information about the city. After exploring the market we will have lunch at Otavalo with a stop at Laguna Cuicocha, which is located in a volcanic crater, and contains two green islands. Then we will visit Cotacachi. This city is famous for its leather goods - a great place to pick up a bargain! Then we will return to Quito.


COTOPAXI NATIONAL PARK EXCURSION

Description:

The one day tour to the Cotopaxi National Park is an exciting tour that begins with spectacular views of the unique Andean landscape "Avenue of the Volcanoes". Inside the national park we walk to the refuge, which is located at 4.810 m. Then we will have some brief indications about safety before starting our descent in mountain bike. The route has two sections, the first is recommended for experienced cyclists. The tour ends at the "Limpiopungo" lagoon at the base of Cotopaxi. This route is made at a height of 4,810m, so it is important to be prepared for this type of altitude. We recommend acclimatization of at least two days around 3,000 m.

Important: For the use of bicycles, you will be asked to sign a document that accepts responsibility for the proper use of the bicycle and you are asked to leave an identity document that will be returned after the visit. Thanks for your understanding.


QUILOTOA EXCURSION

Description:

This full-day cultural trip begins with a visit to a local indigenous market, Saquisili (Thursday) or Pujili (Sundays). The Quilotoa Lagoon - an amazing lagoon inside a volcano crater at the height of 3,800 m - shows beautiful views of the Andean mountains, passing through the ancient Zumbahua canyon and many indigenous cities and farmlands.

Before lunch we will visit a local aboriginal house where you have the opportunity to interact with the habitants.

The tour includes a steep hike at the shore of the lagoon. For the way back to the starting point you can rent a mule.

It is important that you are well prepared for 3,800m, so we recommend acclimating at least one day around 3,000m. The weather in the Laguna area is unpredictable so please bring warm and waterproof clothing.


MINDO EXCURSION

Description:

Mindo is a rural parish just 2 hours from Quito (80 km - 48 miles), located in "Los Bancos" in the Pichincha province. Mindo is known for its famous growth in ecotourism based on the Mindo-Nambillo Protected Forest.

The beautiful landscapes and the exuberant flora and fauna of this cloud forest attract all kinds of travelers and adventurers.

Mindo is located between the high altitude area and the tropical jungle wich gives an excellent biodiversity. You can find more than 500 species of birds, orchids, bromeliads and more than 40 species of butterflies.

The temperature fluctuates around 15ºC - 24ºC (60ºF - 75ºF).
