Making sure you enjoy Peru
Restaurants, taxis, tourist information
The hotel is located in a very safe region of Trujillo, but not close to restaurants, etc. You can take taxis to the restaurants. A list of tips on how to take taxis, fares and restaurans as well as touristic attractions are listed in the following document. Taxis fares downtown are negociated in advance, and are something aroung 8-12 soles (not expensive!).
Safety concerns
In terms of security, Trujillo has a poorer reputation than it deserves. The usual precautions as using the safe in the hotel room for valuables and immigration documents, taking only what is necessary into the street, not flaunting wealth, and avoiding too-good-to-be-true situations are strongly advised. Also, travelling in groups is helpful to ward off the potential crime. Most of what happens to tourists is petty theft.
Taxis can be hailed from the street, but locals tend to use apps like EasyTaxi instead. Taxis with the name of the company with an overhead light tend to be safer than more independent/informal taxis.
The location of the conference is generally considered to be safe, and is also one of the wealthiest areas of the city. Additionally, areas inside the historic center are safe. Places closer to the outskirts of the city tend to get more dangerous with distance from the center, with the exception of Huanchacho.
The downtown is generally safe even in the evening, and a stroll along Jirón Francisco Pizarro is recommended.

Practical observations
- From Lima to Trujillo, flying is recommended. Casa Andina will send a van for pickup as long as it is arranged previously.
- Voltage is 220 60 Hz, which is higher than US, but similar to Europe.
The Casa Andina is one of the best hotels in Trujillo, so they are well equipped for unexpected problems.
- The currency of Peru is the Sol, but it is easily converted to US dollars and vice-versa. The current exchange rate is S/. 3.1 to $. It will be more difficult to exchange other currencies.
- Both physical and chemical protection from the sun is recommended.

Actually enjoying Trujillo
The city of Trujillo
Founded by conquistador Diego de Almagro, Trujillo is known as the capital of eternal Spring for a good reason. Strategically located between the Andes and the Coast, the weather is fresh and spring-like year round with plenty of sun and cooling ocean breezes. Because of its strategic location between the metropolis of Lima and the border with Ecuador, Trujillo has grown to become a regional logistic, manufacturing, agro-industrial, educational, and cultural hub. At present, it hosts 1 public national university and 4 large private universities. Indeed it is one of the most populated provincial cities in the Republic.
Trujillo has much to offer to the visitor, such as a wonderful colonial downtown with various shopping outlets, the central square, the city hall and an ornated cathedral basilica.
Archeological sites from various civilizations throughtout the centuries are also worth a visit, such as places like Chan Chan and the Huacos del Sol y la Luna. The area around Trujillo has been inhabited by several civilizations who conquered and saw conquest. Further down the road from Chan Chan is the beach city of Huanchacho, known for surfing and good seafood. These places can easily be accessed by taxi.

Gastronomy
Trujillo is the main city of "la libertad" region at the north of Peru, along with the inca ruins the regional cuisin is one of the principal tourist attractions.
Indeed, visiting Trujillo is an excellent opportunity to enjoy the world acclaimed (costal) Peruvian cuisine.
The food in tourist places in the downtown and near the hotel is safe to eat, but drinking tap water is not recommended, as bottled water has a lower risk of carrying disease. As with the rest of Peru, Trujillians take their food seriously, with dishes like ceviche, lomo saltado, caldo de gallina, pollo a la brasa, and papas a la huancayina being very popular. It is recommended to avoid fresh salad and fruits that cannot be peeled.
