Motivation

The Valence Bond (VB) community is still small and scattered, while ab initio Valence Bond methods and computational codes are now coming to age. The future of this renaissance depends, however, on the ability of the VB community to combine forces in developing efficient new methods, as well as to extend itself and share its know-how with researchers from different other communities.

Purposes

The purposes of this workshop are :

  • to gather on a same place and at the same time members of the ab initio Valence Bond community
  • to meet with researcher from different other scientific communities, whose interest are related with some aspect of ab initio VB theory
  • to help newcomers to ab initio Valence Bond to learn the necessary basics of the theory and start using some of the available VB codes.

Overview

Considering its purposes, the workshop will contains :

  • plenary lectures on the basics of Valence Bond theory, and on local ab initio Valence Bond methods
  • invited conferences on other families of Valence Bond methods
  • short talks given by participants on a reseach work relevant to VB theory
  • space dedicated to free discussions
  • "hands-on" lab : basic initiation to the XMVB and BLW programs (limited to 30 participants)

>> Outline of the program
