Accommodation

Dear VB workshop participants,

We have managed to arrange two different solutions of group housing for the workshop participants.

As the number of places are limited, we invite interested people to add their name on this wiki page as soon as possible (please don't add more lines on the page, they correspond to the number of available rooms) :

http://wiki.lct.jussieu.fr/workshop/index.php/Group_Housing_for_the_VB_workshop

Paiement will have to be done in advance by credit card, we will send you more information on that soon.

You can find as well other suggestions of housing at the bottom of this page :

http://wiki.lct.jussieu.fr/workshop/index.php/Practical_information_for_the_VB_workshop#Accommodation

Best regards, Benoît

Organizational circular

Dear VB workshop participants,

This is the second organizational circular for the workshop "Ab initio Valence Bond theory" in Paris, Monday 16th July - Friday 20th July. Thanks again for your interest in this event ! :-)

The current list of participants and the draft version of the programme document are available from the workshop web site :

http://wiki.lct.jussieu.fr/workshop/index.php/Workshop_on_ab_initio_Valence_Bond_theory_(VB)

If there are any issues arising from this, please let me know.

Here is below some important information which will require action from you, so please read it and act accordingly :

(1) MATERIAL

We have chosen not to request any conference fee, but on the opposite to general custom, we will not provide any conference material (bag, pen, notebook...), so we invite all participants to bring their own material to the workshop. There will be some paper exercises proposed during the tutorial sessions (not only computer exercises), so we advise you to bring a notebook.

We hope to be able to provide electronic versions of lecture slides, tutorial exercises and program manuals some ~1 week before the beginning on the workshop. You will of course be notified when it is available on-line from our web site. You can already find some pdf files of review papers on Valence Bond theory and book references here :

http://wiki.lct.jussieu.fr/workshop/index.php/Basic_literature_on_VB_theory

However, in order to save paper, we will only provide minimal printed material to participants (1 or 2 pages including the general program and most important practical informations).

(2) COMPUTERS AND INTERNET

Computers will be at the disposal of participants for the tutorial sessions (1 per participant). Of course, they will all have internet connection. However, despite having courageously battled against our network administrators intransigency, we didn't manage to be allowed to provide you wi-fi connexion, neither from conference room nor from the tutorial computer rooms. So you'll not be able to use your personal laptop for tutorial exercises or to connect to the internet if you bring it...

(3) WORKSHOP BANQUET

We will have the workshop banquet on Thursday 19th July evening. We still keep the secret on the location and nature of the banquet, but we are pretty sure you will all enjoy it very much !

Unfortunately, as our budget is tight, we will have to ask you a financial participation for the banquet, which you can give via our on-line payment site :

http://www.congres.upmc.fr/wvb2012/formulaire.html

Payment will act as registration for the banquet. Please proceed to it before July 1st, as we will have to know the exact number of participants enough in advance.

It is possible to come with one accompanying person, we'll ask him/her the same contribution (choose the second option as "registration type"). For anyone having financial problems that would prevent their participation to the banquet, please ask.

(4) MONDAY AND TUESDAY LUNCHES

Monday 16th lunch will be a get-together welcome buffet paid by our sponsors.

For Tuesday 17th lunch, we propose to book the campus restaurant so that we could all have a second lunch together. Price will be 17€ per person (payment on the spot). If you are interested, please add your name to this doodle poll :

http://www.doodle.com/8aiqahbs3yi9uhdm

(5) OTHER LUNCHES AND DINERS

Other lunches and diners are free (i.e. not organized). There is a "restaurant suggestion" pages on the web site which we'll update shortly.

(6) THURSDAY AFTERNOON

Thursday 19th afternoon is free to allow participants to visit some spot of their choice in Paris and surrounding, or simply enjoy the (hopefully...) good weather ! As the interesting spots/activities are as diverse as the number of participants, we didn't plan any organized visit/activity. However, feel free to ask if you have some questions or personal request.

Look forward to seeing you all in Paris next mont. We have a great line-up and we should have a splendid workshop ! :-)

Best wishes from Paris,

Benoît

Last circular

Dear VB workshop participants,

This is the last organizational circular for the "Ab initio Valence Bond theory" workshop in Paris, which will start Monday next week!

(1) PROGRAM

F. Matthias Bickelhaupt had to cancel his participation because of health problems, we all wish him a prompt recovery. This has lead us to make some change on the program, you'll find the current version to the usual link:

http://wiki.lct.jussieu.fr/workshop/index.php/Workshop_on_ab_initio_Valence_Bond_theory_(VB)

(2) MATERIAL

We remind you that, in contrast with other workshop/congress, we will not provide any basic material (paper, pen, bag,...), so don't forget to bring yours!

We will provide : - to all attendees : printed program page of the workshop (there will be no book of abstracts, you'll find them on-line on our site) ; - to all tutorial participants : a printed copy of the XMVB2.0 manual

You can as well already download most VB lectures slides from this page: http://wiki.lct.jussieu.fr/workshop/index.php/Content_of_the_VB_lectures We particularly recommend to tutorial participants to download Peifeng SU's lecture slides.

You'll also find soon the tutorial pages here: http://wiki.lct.jussieu.fr/workshop/index.php/VB_tutorial These pages will be permanently accessible on-line from the computer rooms.

(3) PRACTICAL INFORMATIONS

There is many useful information on the corresponding web site page:

http://wiki.lct.jussieu.fr/workshop/index.php/Practical_informations_for_the_VB_workshop

(4) WEATHER

Well, that's the bad news, the weather forecast are not very optimistic for next week (but this might change...):
